Nearly 100,000 Ask Fisheries Service to Set Strong New Rules to End Overfishing

Now is the chance for President Bush to solidify his ocean legacy (PDF) by ending overfishing. In December 2006, Congress passed a law that requires an end to overfishing by 2011. In June 2008, the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) issued a proposed rule to put this law into effect. Pew Environment Group submitted detailed comments (PDF) and helped deliver nearly 100,000 public comments asking NMFS to close critical loopholes before the rule becomes final.
