Jud Crawford provides scientific and technical support for the Pew Environment Group's efforts to reform fisheries management in New England. He works with the campaign to promote science-based annual catch limits, strong fisheries monitoring programs and accountability in the fishery. His training as a professional biologist, and long history in coastal New England, provide him with a unique perspective on attaining campaign goals and the ability to translate critical scientific and policy information for improving fisheries management.

Jud joined the Pew Environment Group from the Conservation Law Foundation where he worked on a diversity of scientific and conservation issues as Senior Scientist for the organization. He directed the Initiative on Marine Ecosystem Conservation for six years, managing an international collaboration with WWF-Canada and mapping out marine areas of high value for protection of marine biodiversity. He worked on other issues ranging from public health to offshore energy projects and was a member of CLF's strategic planning committee.

A seasoned academic biologist with research expertise on the behavior and physiology of fishes, Jud entered the environmental arena as a tenured professor at the University of Pennsylvania. He has published scores of useless peer reviewed journal articles and taught biology in several academic programs. He maintains his ties to academic science through an active affiliation with the Boston University Marine Program. Jud holds degrees from Duke University (BS), University of Pennsylvania (MS) and Cornell University (PhD).
